On a starting-to-warm-up early spring day in the Northeast, some thoughts on Florida Football:

1. Following a long line of successful UF kickers, the Gators bring back two of the best in the nation in 2010. Punter Chas Henry was a second team All-SEC punter. The senior punter averaged over 43 yards per punt last year, pinned opponents inside their 20-yard line 11 times, and had a number of punts of 50+ yards. The 6'3", 222-pound Henry is considered a top overall NFL prospect for the 2011 draft.

2. Caleb Sturgis returns as the UF place-kicker. He aptly manned the job in 2009, making 22-30 field goal attempts and converting on 44 of 47 extra point tries. Sturgis, a junior, also led Florida in scoring last year with 110 points.

3. The Orange and Blue spring football game is scheduled for Saturday Apr. 10, 2010 at 1:00 PM. For details, check out this link.

4. Auburn Head Football Coach Gene Chizik played linebacker for the Gators during the 1981 season. Coincidentally, that was my freshman year in Gainesville. A 1985 UF graduate, Chizik has very quickly turned many early Tiger skeptics into believers. He helped Auburn land one of the top recruiting classes for the 2010 season and many college football insiders believe that the Tigers are in for a solid SEC run in 2010.

5. And finally, it's been 22 years since I last set foot on the University of Florida campus. I'll get my chance to revisit my own Shangri La in mid-April accompanied by some dear friends.

The opportunity to walk around the fields of my youthful dreams promises to bring back some of my most cherished memories. While it's a place I'm never far from, the chance to touch the ground reminds me of the importance of time and good footwork.
